Nokian Tyres Releases A Full Range Of New Forestry Skidder Tyres

The new Nokian Logger King LS-2 is purpose-designed for full-tree logging operations.

The new tyres have been designed for use on skidders and come in five sizes of 23.1-26, 28L-26, 24.5-32, 30.5L-32 and 35.5L-32. The two largest sizes also have an extreme version available for the most demanding forestry work. The new tyres have already undergone testing in various locations for some time. The Logger King LS-2 and Logger King LS-2 Extreme are the two versions of the new tyre that will be available. The standard version is designed for normal operating conditions and small to medium sized skidders. The Logger King LS-2 Extreme has a more robust carcass structure and extra steel layers. The higher ply rating provides improved protection against punctures. This version has been designed for the most severe environments and the strongest and heaviest machines. The biggest size in the range, 35.5L-32, is available only in the extreme version.

The tread is described as “open and aggressive with shovel shaped lugs for the best possible self-cleaning and traction”. High tread depth and wide and sharp lug designs on the shoulder provide good lateral grip tyre protection when chains are used. The tread features tyre protectors on the groove bottom for better protection with chain use. Traction and balance have been improved by designing the tread to be straighter, allowing wider contact with the ground. The tyres also have straighter sidewalls. The Logger King LS-2 has a high strength textile carcass with wide steel reinforcements under the tread. The Extreme version has an even stronger carcass structure with extra layers of steel breakers under the tread for protection against punctures.

The Logger King uses a single wire bead design. The hexagon shape bead wire distributes the load evenly to the rim flange and prevents the tyre from slipping on the rim. Single wire construction also makes the tyre installation easier than the conventional design and prevents the tyre from being damaged during installation. The bead area of the Logger King uses rubber which is very stiff and sturdy. The new tyres also feature a rim protector to guard against sticks and stumps which tend to penetrate between the tyre and the rim during operation.
