March 2010
In this edition of Logging-on we take a look at a wide spectrum of Forest Engineering information. Some of the grinders in the Morbark product range can now be converted into chippers, and then back into grinders in a very short space of time. We look at some timber transport research, including emissions of logging trucks and methods of improving transport efficiencies. Hydrostatic transmission is becoming increasingly common in our forestry machines and we investigate how it works. We also present the company results for 2009 for both Ponsse and Husqvarna. The Scion research organisation in New Zealand carries out harvesting research and we highlight their focus areas. Tigercat has made improvements to some of their tracked carriers, including their ER boom system.
Before we hit Forest Engineering matters, we spare a thought for our colleagues and friends in Chile who were affected by the earthquake. Some of the major timber growing areas and processing facilities are close to Concepcion and were affected by the quake.
Now to Forest Engineering matters!
