Ponsse's French subsidiary celebrated its 20th anniversary in September
Ponssé SAS hosted a function with 200 customers and partners. In 1995, the first Ponsse forest machine was sold in France. The most popular Ponsse models in France are the Ergo and Buffalo, and the majority of harvesting companies are small, having only 1 to 3 machines. Traditionally, harvesting has focused on hardwood, but the mechanical harvesting of softwood is also increasing because of extensive softwood planting. The most common species include fir, spruce, maritime pine, Douglas fir, oak, poplar and birch. Source: http://www.ponsse.com/media-archive/news/ponsse-operating-in-france-since-1995
Research assistantships needed to improve logging safety – Pacific Northwest (USA)
The University of Idaho needs to recruit research assistants that will partake in research to reduce fatal and near-fatal logging accidents in the Pacific Northwest. The researchers will work closely with logging contractors to characterize the human factors that lead to fatal and near-fatal accidents. They will then evaluate the use of real-time multi-transmitter GPS systems for characterizing situations that lead to safety hazards in order to identify acceptable and unacceptable uses of the technology. The location will be Moscow, Idaho. Interested students can contact Dr. Robert Keefe at robk@uidaho.edu, with a copy of your CV attached. The names of three references and GRE scores are also required.
