Which forestry tyres for which application: part 2

We examine the Nokian range of tyres to see what tyre should be used for specific conditions.

In the previous issue of Logging-on, we covered the CTL logging tyres from Nokian. In this issue we examine the tyres for skidders and tractor-based forestry machines. For skidders, wide tyres with deep lugs are required for traction. Nokian’s skidder tyre is as follows:

  • Nokian Forest King TRS LS-2 – A low profile diagonal tyre with high lugs for traction. It is manufactured using a cut-resistant compound to protect it from tree stumps and rocks. It also has steel fortification against punctures.

Tractor tyres have to be able to withstand harsh forestry conditions, but also deliver a more pleasant driving experience than traditional forestry tyres.

  • Nokian Forest Rider – A tubeless radial tyre with good traction due to the lug design and sharp shoulders that provide good lateral grip. It has puncture protection from steel belts and sidewall protectors. It is a versatile tyre for various forestry machines and has a high load capacity.
  • Nokian Forest King T – This is a tyre designed for heavy tractors doing demanding forestry work. It has good self-cleaning properties for operating in wet conditions.
  • Nokian TR Forest – The diagonal construction pattern provides strength, and the tread pattern allows excellent traction. The tread compound was developed for forestry use. It has good self cleaning properties.
  • Nokian TR Multiplus – This a multipurpose tyre designed for light forestry, agriculture and earthmoving machines. It has good traction and self cleaning properties.
