Valmet becomes Komatsu

Red machines will still be working in the forest, but the Valmet brand will no longer be used.

The red colours of Valmet have been on the market for nearly fifty years. Valmet acquired Timbco in 2000. Komatsu has owned Valmet since 2004. From the beginning of this year, the use of the Valmet brand will cease, and all new machines will be branded as Komatsu.

Komatsu is a Japanese company and can trace its origins back to 1894, as the Takeuchi Mining Company. In 1917, this company established the Komatsu Iron Works to manufacture machine tools and mining equipment for in-house use. In 1931 Komatsu manufactured Japans first crawler-type farm tractor. The late 1940’s saw the first D50 bulldozer, as well as the production of diesel engines. Product expansion was rapid during the 1950’s and 1960’s, with graders, forklifts, dump trucks, excavators and wheeled loaders. The first exports of machinery took place in 1955 (graders to Argentina). Growth after that was exponential, with the first offshore production of construction equipment taking place in Brazil in 1975 (the D50A bulldozer). Komatsu is internationally recognised for producing quality construction and other equipment.
