Transportation profitability - New digital newsletter from Transportation Media

The publication is titled “Inside the Numbers”, and focuses on analysing the factors that affect the profitability of transport operators.

The publication is targeted at North American (mostly Canadian) conditions, but many aspects are relevant to any transport operation around the globe. The inaugural issue concentrates on transportation rates and rates increases. The editor, Lou Smyrlis, provides a series of explanations on why transportation rates are remaining relatively low, even though economies seem to be recovering.

Aspects such as freight volumes, transportation capacity, and current and expected rates are analysed. Various indices are examined to try and determine trends and make predictions. These include the Canadian Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index, the Canadian Spot Market Freight Index, the US Truck Tonnage Index and the US Shippers Condition Index. Much information is provided in the form of easy to read tables and graphs.

The publication concludes with an analysis of Class 8 truck sales trends in Canada. Information is provided per manufacturer, per month and per year (dating back to 1999).
