Tigercat release their new 880D logger

The 880D replaces the popular 880 and is designed for loading, shovel logging or processing.

The 880D appeared for the first time at Demo 2016. It is a heavy duty, purpose-built forestry carrier for various logging applications. The D-series has been upgraded to the Tigercat FPT N67 engine that produces 230 kW (308 hp) of power at 2,000 rpm. The engine is available in Tier 2 and Tier 4f configurations. The swing bearing diameter has been increased from 1 370 mm (54 in) to 1 565 mm (62 in). The larger bearing provides increased capacity and swing torque. The twin swing drive system reduces gear tooth loads. A large single-piece, forged pedestal strengthens the undercarriage and improves durability.

The 880D logger shares the modular main hydraulic valve with all other Tigercat 800 series carriers, which will improve parts commonality. This also provides the ability to easily swap out a valve section, simplifying maintenance. Tigercat has put much focus on producing an undercarriage more robust than other excavator-based carriers. The undercarriage has long frames and a wide stance carbody to provide good stability. Track components have been co-designed with Berco to provide good durability in forestry applications.

As with other Tigercat excavators, the 880D has high cooling capacity with an automatic variable speed fan which improves fuel efficiency and the fan has an automatic reversing cycle to clean the heat exchangers. The 880D also has an energy recovery swing system. A closed loop drive feeds power back to the engine when swing decelerates, reducing fuel consumption and recovering energy for other machine functions.

Service access is made easy with a power operated side engine door and overhead roof enclosure. Shields separate the engine from the hydraulic pumps and valves. The entire upper assembly is designed for extreme duty. Heavy wall side bumpers and a solid cast counterweight protect the upper assembly from impacts when swinging. Walk-up access to the rear entry door leads to the large cab. A full-length front window and additional floor windows provide clear sightlines. LED lighting provides higher output for better operator vision and improved lighting reliability. Source:  http://www.tigercat.com/880d-logger-debuts-demo-2016/
