Water bars are used to control and disperse water flow from skid trails.
The Forest Resources Association has provided us with simple guidelines for installing water bars with skidder blades. It is important to prevent water from flowing uncontrollably down skid trails after logging operations are complete. Water bars can disperse water before the water has time to increase in velocity and volume. The method, known as the EZ Bar technique, allows the logging equipment on site to build water bars effectively. The key technique is that half of the water bar is installed with the skidder headed downslope, and the other half with the skidder headed upslope. The technique is briefly, but well described in a technical note (Technical Release 12-R-21), and even contains a link to a YouTube video to show how to construct an EZ Bar with a skidder.
