The Shear Bar innovation helps to cut or dislodge a winch line, rope, vines or other lines.
The device prevents these ropes from entering into a chipper's drum during chipper operations, which can prevent a serious injury, death, or reduce the extent of a serious injury if an operator becomes entangled in a line that is pulled into a chipper. The Shear Bar device has been standard on new Bandit drum hand-fed chippers since 2012 and is available as a retrofit option for all prior Bandit chippers. But now Bandit has also developed a patent pending disc-style shear device that performs the same function as the shear bar device on disc-style chippers. The new device is now standard on all new Bandit disc-style hand fed chippers, and is also available as a retrofit option for all prior Bandit chippers.
The risk of accidents involving winch cables and climbing ropes has become concerning to the tree care industry. The International Society of Arboribulture (ISA) and the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) are both warning of the potential dangers of ropes and cables entering the chippers. This innovation is expected to contribute to individual operator safety and industry-wide safety awareness.
