AutoSock is a high technology textile tyre covering. It has patterned fibres that optimise grip on slick surfaces by managing the thin layer of water on top of ice and snow. It has a weaving pattern and thousands of small fibres cling to snow and ice, increasing vehicle traction and improving safety. It works at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/hr) on snow and ice.
AutoSock is available in different sizes to fit most vehicles. It can be used with and improves electronic safety systems such as ESP and ABS. It is easy to install and self-centres automatically when one starts driving. It provides for a comfortable and quiet ride as there are no noises or vibrations. It is lightweight, easy to store, reusable and machine washable. It should not however be used on dry surfaces and should only be used as a temporary winter aid. The main application in forestry would be on timber trucks that have to operate in snow or ice conditions. It cannot be used on logging equipment with aggressive tread.
