Log Transport And Logging Residue Reports Available From Skogforsk
The articles include using harvesters to map the location of logging residues, and new timber trucks with lower emissions and costs.

Conventional log transport trucks in Sweden have a gross weight of 60 tonnes and are 24 m long (79 ft). The ETT Modular System for Timber Transport has been researching heavier and longer log trucks operating in Sweden for the past three years. Different log truck combinations up to 90 tonnes and 30 m (98 ft) were tested. The results showed that fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and costs were reduced by up to 20%, with no negative impact on traffic safety or deterioration of the road surface.

Modern harvesters store much information regarding the trees that they process. Skogforsk, in collaboration with certain forestry companies, have developed a system that uses this data to calculate and locate logging residue quantities. The outcome of the research is a procedure for exporting production layers with different formatting. This can then be used in the GIS applications used with harvesters and forwarders.
